In Memory of my dad…

On  July 31st  2006,  my father passed away from complications during heart surgery to repair a regurgitating mitral valve at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco.  He was 79 years old and had been suffering from congestive heart failure for months prior to the surgery.   He is missed  and we think of him often.

  1. Going through my childhood memorabilia recently, I came across my 1949 Florida Methodist Youth Camp handbook with Wai Mun Syn’s signature and Singapore address in it. I remember him as a very popular counselor at camp. That prompted me to do a Google search. Sorry to see he is now deceased. I though he might have gone into the ministry. But I gather from the video and the IBM reference that he pursued a career in that field. I’m sure he had a happy life and made many around him enjoy their lives also. Best wishes. Robt. Y

    • Thank you for that post. Its been almost 7 years now and we miss him every day. I have heard stories of those days in the Florida Methodist Youth Camp. It wasn’t till his funeral that I heard stories from the Toll’s (the family that sponsored him in Florida) that he had spent a year in a Japanese Work Camp before making to the US. I am humbled by the fact that you remembered him. He ended up graduating from University of Illinois with a Math and Electrical Engineering degree, taught at the university for a few years, married and moved to California to raise my sister and I. He achieved some groundbreaking work for IBM in the early days of Computer Science. He retired and traveled the world with my mom. Thanks for remembering him – it made my day.
