Sunday, the wind really started to blow. I braved the white caps and looked for sheltered areas to fish. I ended up only catching 5 good stripers and hardly any dinks. On my way in, I fished Pipers Slough as it empties into the Track. The wind was building and was blowing 20 when I decided to make a few more cast before calling it. Three strips into my last cast, the fly dug into something big – my first Delta salmon about 10 lbs. It was a great weekend in the worst of conditions.
I was surprised that all the big fish caught this weekend were on small flies. I left that box home for San Luis Reservoir and came hunting for trophies with 3/0 flies. Lucky for me I had a couple smaller flies in one of my boxes
