Mark Syn and Homecoming 09

The Leland Class of 2012, lead by VP Mark Syn et al, make Leland High School history by placing 2nd in two consecutive years as Freshman and Sophmores. Watch out next year, I predict they will step it up a notch on the tech front and win the competition for the next two years. LELAND…

Mauii and the Huricaine that never came

I was so looking forward to Hurricane Felicia. It was interesting to watch the island preparing for the worst. I met a man from Home Depot that was in charge of securing the store for the storm so that in the event of a disaster, they could help rebuild the island. Brilliant. Anyways, the “Caine”…

CALSO 2009

Last week Gina and  I attended CALSO 2009 with our great friends Barry and Graciella Kliger.  Dr Kliger and I attended UC Davis and Northwestern Dental School together and we have kids the same age.   Consequently, our daughters graduated high school with nearly identical records and got accepted and rejected by exactly the same schools.   After futile attempts to…

Every 15 Minutes… Leland High School

Fatalities are declining especially — the 15 percent decrease among underage drunk driving fatalities because of programs like this in High Schools across America.   Recruited by Leland to help edit the Video portion of the two day program,  I was amazed at the year of planning and secrecy that was maintained in order to put…

State Speech and Debate: 7th place OI

Congratulations to Mia in placing 7th in the State in Oratory Interpretation.  The Tournament tookplace in Culver City April 26, 2009.  Mia made it to the final round in 4th place but final round proved to be very competative and a “air conditioning” incident during her round put her at a disadvantage.   In probably the…

The most AMAZING Christmas gift

A couple posts back I mentioned reviewing a MINI Projector.  This Christmas morning to my surprise,  my son  Mark,  surprised me by wrapping up on these gizmo’s for me under the tree.  I must admit I was surprised that a 14 year old cold track one down and purchase it.  One of the coolest presents…

The Giant Christmas Tree of 2009

As we do every year, we drove up to the Christmas Tree Farms above Los Gatos and picked out a big tree for the living room.   Being that it  is Mia’s last Christmas as a senior and that we have Holiday parties planned at the house this year,  we decided to find a realy big…

Mia’s Trebuchet Physics Project

First of all, yes this was my daughters Leland High School Physics Project that I enjoyed helping her with, however, if they didn’t expect parents and outsiders to help these kids, why did they set the dimensions of the device to one square meter and choose a projectile like a baseball?  No way to build…

Erin and Ken’s EXCELLENT Wedding

Its been years since we took a vacation to Maui without the kids and we have Erin and Ken to thank for a wonderful time in Hawaii.  Yesterday was EPIC with beautifull weather for the ceremony despite rain and clouds on both days before and after.   The beach was fantastic,  a small intimate setting just a mile…

Mark and Kian Pown Duo

In what might be considered a major victory for the underdogs,  my son Mark and his partner Kian, both freshmen novices,  were victorious in there first National Forensics League  tournament together in Duo Interpretative Speech.  The tournament was held at Leland High School  and the Duo event attracted 28 pairs of competitors from elite Northern California Schools like…

Rock and Roll Marathon 2008

Gina and Mary Ann completed their second Rock and Roll Half Marathon today, eclipsing their last years time by a few minutes.   The weather was great and after the race we had a nice lunch at the Fairmont and waited around until Credence Clearwater Revisited took the stage to close the race.

Taste of Chicago 2008

Its been nearly ten years since we revisited the old neighborhood in Downtown Chicago.  A kidless week revisiting those places that were so familair to us was refreshing and rejuvinating.  I forgot how many people actually show up for Taste of Chicago until they closed the streets around Grant Park to let the partiers exit…

El Salto Lodge

Whats better than taking your son out of school to go fishing in Mexico for a week? Nuthin’. This mid school year expedition took place near Mazatlan at a lake called El Salto, home of the next world record largemouth bass. This trip was special in that my cousin Wayne and my Uncle Yun were…

Europe 2007

Disney Cruise lines sailed the Med for the very first time this summer and being that our family is addicted to Disney Cruises we had to see Europe for the first time on a Disney Yacht.  In what turned out to be one of our best vacations ever, we sailed for 14 days, and saw…

In Memory of my dad…

On  July 31st  2006,  my father passed away from complications during heart surgery to repair a regurgitating mitral valve at Kaiser Hospital in San Francisco.  He was 79 years old and had been suffering from congestive heart failure for months prior to the surgery.   He is missed  and we think of him often. In Memory…
